My secret dream since a couple of years have been to write my own lifestyle blog and finally I've found the courage to do it! No just kidding. But I thought that maybe it would be interesting (at least for some of you) to get a small glimpse of the Indian food culture and maybe also clothing later on. But here comes first the food part!
upper: Chapati and Vegetable Masala
down: Idli and Sambar
Chapati: actually North Indian, made simply of wheat flour, water and a some drops of oil. Eaten with some spicy sambar (sauce) or for example veg masala as in the picture
Idly: fermented rice cakes, should be very healthy because of the fermentation process. Eaten with sambar (tasty chicken sambar in the picture)
upper: dosa and fried lady's finger
down: lemon rice
Dosa: pancakes made of rice flour. Eaten with sambar or something else. For example masala dosa is very popular and tasty.
Lemon rice: rice mixed with a sauce made of nuts, much garlic, onions, ghee, lemon juice, chilis, ginger, turmeric powder, mustard seeds and some other Indian spices.
Masala Dosa
Delicious masala dosa contains the masala sauce inside. It can be dipped different sambars or in tasty chutneys as in the picture.
Eating from banana leaves
Very often in restaurants or if you just buy ready-made food to bring home it is packed in banana leaves. Ecological, useful and looks nice :)
delicious mango lassi
It is actually not mango season right now, so it is quite difficult to get mango lassi anywhere. But there is still many other nice flavours such as papaya, pineapple, banana etc.
Coconuts are used in almost everything
Coconut chutney, coconut cakes, coconut biscuits, coconut in sauces, coconut sweets...And if you have stomach problems coconut milk and also the hard substance inside can be helpful. Delicious and very filling. The Indian women also put coconut oil in their hair like some kind of a conditioner. It looks nice on them, but in my hair it looks just dirty. But maybe it is the secret behind their amazingly long and thick hair...?
Ammu preparing lunch
We don't have any dining tables at home nor is there enough space in the kitchen to make the food on a table. So everything is done sitting on the floor.
